After a busy week at work, it was time to head out to Washington to visit Coach Charly Loera. No skiing this weekend, but a nice bike ride was on the agenda. I have a confession to make — for reasons far too complicated to write about, I’ve been riding with flat pedals for years. I don’t mind them — they are easy to engage and disengage, but they lack power. And, let’s be honest, a flat ride doesn’t do a lot for cardio training. Alas, the hills are calling, and my flat pedals are insufficient to help me make the climbs. That became very clear as I chased Coach Charly up Badger Mountain. Sure, he’s faster than I am, but riding flat pedals sure didn’t help! All in all, it was a great ride! But, those flat pedals have got to go!
