About Laura Caldera

My story

I am a mom, daughter, sister, friend, lawyer, runner, biker, skier, swimmer, dreamer, prankster who generally refuses to grow up!

This blog chronicles my journey as I train for the Marine Corps Marathon as a member of Team Ellen.  Ellen will pull her sister Molly and me 26.2 miles to the finish line on October 27, 2019 in Arlington, VA.

My love for running began at the young age of 45.  My passion to help make others’ dreams of competing in distance running was sparked when two of my girlfriends and I helped our friend Summar cross the finish line of the Portland Marathon in 2015, a bucket list dream for Summar whose battle with Stage IV cancer was long and courageous.  I have since become active in Ainsley’s Angels in Oregon and have been pulled by many athlete riders across many finish lines.

To train for the Marine Corps Marathon, I will participate in daily runs with my running buddy, Hercules.  During the colder months I’ll cross train on the mountain.  When the sun raises its bright and shiny face, I’ll cross-train in the saddle.  And, when I get over whining about it, I’ll cross train weekly in the pool.

Between the start of this blog and the Marine Corps Marathon I will log a lot of miles, make a few missteps, take a lot of goofy pictures, and write some fun prose.

Thanks for joining the journey!  Let’s roll!

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
